War Horse (2011)

I don't know what playing "Equus" means.

Let's talk Spielberg for a few more seconds. "War Horse" is the kind of sprawling epic I often associate with the director, and he doesn't disappoint. Adding to an already impressive resume, the story, based on the novel by Michael Morpurgo, centers around a young man and his horse on the outbreak of WWI. Spielberg's visual style, with the help of long time cinematographer Janusz Kaminski, compliments the script so perfectly, it's hard to imagine anyone else taking on such a project. The writing is nearly flawless, the acting is superb, and, as always, John Williams' score is beautiful and moving.
