The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011)

David Fincher made the most visceral film of the year, based on the novel by Stieg Larsson. Along with Steve Zaillian's script, and Jeff Cronenweth's photography, Fincher brings horrifying images to life frame after frame, with an unflinching honesty. Rooney Mara plays the eponymous character on two different levels: a reserved, quiet woman who can barely make eye contact with someone sitting right next to her, and monster who, when provoked, is willing to do anything to get what she needs. There are few films to ever make me squirm, for any reason, and this one had two scenes that had me verbally reacting to the level of discomfort I felt (read the rating info on the bottom if you want to get a small clue why). A feeling, believe it or not, I love when watching movies.
