Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011)

John le Carre's Lying Circus
I have one complaint about "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy", just one. It wasn't long enough. Imagine how much deeper this plot could have delved into the characters, their pasts, and the world of intrigue they live in. Watching the characters unfold in front of us in the short time we had with them was fine, but it was the men playing them that kept the film vibrant. Gary Oldman especially gets high praise for his performance. He is more often than not a force on screen, but his quiet, calculated George Smiley is so precise, it's hard to think of any performance I enjoyed more in film this year. Tomas Alfredson has created a smooth, sleek 70's era thriller complimented by beautiful sets, costumes, and cinematography.
