The Iron Lady (2011)

Has she thoughts within her head?
This review is going to be about how great Jim Broadbent is. Even when films are terrible, much like "Moulin Rouge", Broadbent tends to be as enjoyable as any one actor can be. In "The Iron Lady", a tedious biopic about former British Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher, he is not only enjoyable, he is the most enjoyable part of the film. That isn't saying anything against Meryl Streep's Thatcher, he just outshines her in every scene they have together. Streep is dependably good, but she does't give Thatcher any weight, and every time she speaks it tends to be a long, boring, rambling mess, as is most of the writing. I, at no point in the film, emotionally connected to her, and I don't know who to blame for that. The director also doesn't seem to know what kind of style to direct in. One moment she's got the camera set, and the next it will bouncing around like a Lars Von Trier film. I wanted very much to like this film, instead I was so incredibly bored by it.
